Black aluminium windows

Black aluminium windows are powder coated, usually in RAL 9005 jet black. Aluminium isn't tied to a foil chart: any RAL colour is possible, smooth or textured, and the inside can differ from the outside.

Aluminium black windows

RAL 9005 jet black is in the configurator list, with RAL 7021 black grey as the darkest grey next to it. On a slim aluminium frame black reads as a thin line around the glass.

Aluminium windows RAL 7016

RAL 7016 anthracite grey is in the list twice: as RAL 7016 anthracite grey and as RAL 7016 smooth. With black, it is the colour most seen on modern houses.

Grey aluminium windows

Besides anthracite there are RAL 7039 quartz grey, RAL 9007 grey aluminium and RAL 9006 white aluminium.

White aluminium windows

White comes as RAL 9010 pure white or RAL 9016 traffic white. Look at both next to your brick or render before you choose.

Brown aluminium windows

RAL 8019 grey brown is the brown in the list. Other RAL tones are possible, as is an anodised effect.

Best colour for aluminium windows

Take the brick, the roof and your front door as the starting point, and keep one colour on every window of the house. If the doors are aluminium too, give them the same RAL colour.

Smooth, textured and metallic in the colour list

The named colours in the configurator don't all have the same surface. RAL 9010 pure white, RAL 9016 traffic white and RAL 7016 smooth are smooth. RAL 7016 anthracite grey, RAL 9005 jet black, RAL 7021, RAL 7039, RAL 8019, RAL 6009, RAL 3005 and RAL 5011 come as a fine texture. RAL 9006 and RAL 9007 are metallic.

That is why anthracite appears twice: once smooth, once textured. Under each sample the configurator names the finish, so you know what you are picking before the quote.

Your own RAL colour

Not every colour is in the list, and it doesn't need to be. If your architect has given you a RAL number, or you want to match windows already on the house, you type the number into the configurator. Any colour from the RAL Classic range is accepted; a number outside that range is refused, so you can check it.

Once the number is in, you choose the gloss level: gloss, matt or textured. Gloss is preselected. A colour that isn't in the list is added to your quote.

Gloss, matt or textured finish

Gloss and matt are both smooth powder coats; the difference is how much light the surface throws back. Textured feels slightly rough and shows fingerprints and small scratches less, which helps on frames that get handled a lot, such as a door.

Textured and metallic coatings go through the oven once more than a smooth coat, and the anodised effect belongs to that same separate powder range.

Anodised effect

The anodised option in the list is a powder coating made to look like anodised aluminium; the frame itself is not anodised. You pick it in the configurator the same way as any other colour in the list.

Green, red and blue aluminium windows

Beyond white, grey and black, the list has RAL 6009 fir green, RAL 3005 wine red and RAL 5011 steel blue, all three with a fine texture. Any other shade from the RAL Classic range goes in as your own number, smooth or textured.

Aluminium and uPVC colours on one house

If some windows are uPVC and others aluminium, the colours come from different systems: foil on uPVC, powder coat on aluminium. Anthracite matt RAL 7016 exists as a uPVC foil and RAL 7016 as a powder coat. The number is the same, but a foil and a coating side by side can still differ in sheen, so put them on different elevations or accept the contrast.

RAL 7021 black grey is in the aluminium list only. In uPVC the nearest are the anthracite foils or graphite black RAL 9011.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What colours do aluminium windows come in?

Any RAL colour, powder coated. The configurator lists white, greys, anthracite, black, grey brown, fir green, wine red, steel blue and an anodised effect.

What colour aluminium windows should I pick?

One that works with the brick and your front door, and that you keep on every window. Anthracite and black suit most modern houses; white a rendered one.

Does a textured finish cost more?

Yes. Textured or metallic coating goes through the oven one more time. What your colour costs is in your made-to-measure quote.

Can the inside be white?

Yes. Inside and outside can differ, so white inside with black or anthracite outside is possible.

What if the configurator doesn't accept my RAL number?

Then the number isn't in the RAL Classic range, which is the range it checks against. Check the number first. If your colour comes from another colour system, ask us before you order.

Does my own RAL colour cost more?

On screen no colour is shown as dearer than another. Your own colour goes into the quote, and so does what it costs.

Matt or gloss for anthracite windows?

Both are possible on any RAL Classic colour. Matt reflects less light; gloss is the preselected level. If the windows get touched a lot, a textured finish hides marks better.
