The first distinction with a door isn't the side panel but the opening direction. A front door opens inwards; what opens outwards we call a back door or garden door, and it's the same door leaf with the hinges reversed. Behind that choice is the way you walk through: with a front door the hall is usually smaller than the space outside, with a garden door it's the other way round.
A side panel is fixed glass next to the door, not a second door — it adds light without making the door itself wider or heavier to use. A single side panel can go left or right, usually on the side with the most room in the wall or the walkway; two side panels give a symmetrical look and the most light in the hall, at the cost of the widest opening of the three.
If you want a wider way through than one door allows, double garden doors are the form for it: two doors that open outwards from the middle, so the whole width can clear without tracks or folding hardware. That's narrower than a sliding patio door or a bifold door, but simpler and usually cheaper if you don't need their full width.

Frequently asked questions about doors
What's the difference between a front door and a back door?
The opening direction: a front door opens inwards, a back door or garden door outwards. Otherwise it's the same form of door, often with more glass on a garden door, because the view is usually the point there.
What does a side panel do to the price of a door?
A side panel is fixed glass and needs no hinge or hardware, but it does add to the length of frame and the glass. The exact difference is in your offer, once you've chosen a door with or without a side panel and sent the request.
Can I get a wide opening with two doors, without a sliding door?
Yes, double garden doors: two doors that open outwards from the middle. That needs room outside for them to swing, and in return gives an opening without tracks or folding hardware.
What are uPVC doors made of?
The frame and the leaf are uPVC profile, a rigid plastic with a reinforcing core inside: steel in most profiles, glass fibre in some. On our front doors the leaf carries a quartz composite panel by Dindecor; garden and back doors carry mostly glass.
How long do uPVC doors last?
We don't publish a lifespan in years, because we can't show you a measurement behind it. What shortens the life of any door most is the fitting and the hardware adjustment, which is your fitter's work.
How safe are uPVC doors?
As safe as the complete unit and its fitting. Every front door comes with a cylinder and three keys, a class C security cylinder is an option, and laminated safety glass class P4A (EN 356) can be chosen. We supply and don't install, so we make no claim on the class a door reaches once fitted.
Can I buy uPVC doors online, supply only?
Yes, that is how we work. You configure the door online, made to measure, and request the offer; we supply, we don't install. Prices in GBP, excl. UK VAT and import duties, which are payable on delivery. Delivery to the UK is quoted with your offer.
Composite or uPVC doors: which should I choose?
With us it isn't either-or: our front doors have a uPVC or aluminium frame with a quartz composite panel. The choice you make is the frame material, uPVC for price or aluminium for a slimmer, stiffer frame.
