Profiles

Profiles that can do this

Uf, frame depth and sightline come from the profile table. The corner section is the manufacturer's render of exactly this profile: for Aluprof always the same shot — closed corner, close up — and for Gealan the render of the S 9000 NL family. The maximum sash width is on every profile page.

How it works

How it works

1000 × 2100 MM

What is an aluminium front door?

A front door is not a window with a lock in it. The hardware is door hardware with a cylinder, the leaf runs down to the threshold, and the size limits are different: the narrowest door section that can be made is 600 mm wide and the tallest 2,500 mm. Those are hard manufacturing limits, not guidelines.

Aluminium front doors with side panels

A front door often has a side panel beside it: a narrow fixed light that brings daylight into the hall. The narrowest side panel we can make is 180 mm — narrower than the narrowest ordinary section of 200 mm, because a side panel only carries glass and no hardware. You order door and side panel as one unit with several sections, not as two separate frames.

The threshold: where a front door goes wrong

The part where a front door most often goes wrong is the threshold. Watertightness, insulation, threshold height and accessibility all come together there, and it is also where the connection to the floor build-up is made. We supply, we don't install — so discuss the threshold detail with whoever fits the door, before you order.

Which aluminium profile for a front door?

All three aluminium profiles we supply are also available as a front door, and they differ just as they do for a window. The MB-79N is the entry model: 70 mm frame depth and Uf 0.83 W/m²K. The MB-86N insulates best of the three: 77 mm and Uf 0.57 W/m²K. The MB-Ferroline has the slimmest sightline with a steel look: 110 mm and Uf 1.50 W/m²K. With a door, frame depth counts for more than with a window — the leaf is taller and heavier than a window sash, and a deeper profile carries that weight better.

Aluminium front doors with a quartz composite panel

The frame and leaf are Aluprof profile; the panel in the leaf is quartz composite, made by Dindecor, the same panel as on our uPVC front doors. A hard, mineral surface that takes scratches and weather better than a painted panel, with the design chosen in the configurator.

The best aluminium front door for your home

There is no single best door, but there is a best fit. If insulation decides it, the MB-86N; if a slim steel-look sightline decides it, the MB-Ferroline; if price comes first, the MB-79N. A heavy leaf used every day is where aluminium earns its price over uPVC.

Aluminium front doors prices in the UK

The guide price above is measured on our own quotes. Prices in GBP, excl. UK VAT and import duties, which are payable on delivery. Delivery to the UK is quoted with your offer. We supply, we don't install, so fitting is priced by your own fitter.

Black aluminium front doors

Black and anthracite are the colours most asked for on aluminium front doors. The frame takes any RAL colour, with RAL 9005 jet black and RAL 7016 anthracite grey in the list, and the inside can be a different colour from the outside.

Traditional aluminium front doors

Aluminium doesn't have to look modern. A calm, symmetrical panel design in a deep colour such as fir green (RAL 6009) or wine red (RAL 3005) gives a traditional front door with the strength of an aluminium frame.

Modern aluminium front doors for homes

For a modern home the slim frame is the point: little profile, a lot of panel. A plain quartz composite panel in black or anthracite, with or without a vertical strip of glass, gives the cleanest door.

Frequently asked questions

Aluminium front doors: common questions

How much are aluminium front doors?

That depends on the size, the layout (with or without a side panel), the profile, the glass and the colour — which is why there is no fixed figure here. The guide price above is measured against our own quote archive and not a price list; under it is the number of quotes it rests on, and that number tells you how firm the figure above it is. The configurator shows no price: you put it together and request the offer. Prices in GBP, excl. UK VAT and import duties, which are payable on delivery. Delivery to the UK is quoted with your offer.

What are the minimum and maximum sizes of a door?

The narrowest door section is 600 mm wide, the tallest door section 2,500 mm. A side panel beside a door can be as narrow as 180 mm. Those three figures are fixed in our manufacturing limits; the configurator checks them.

Can I have a stronger cylinder?

Yes. Besides the standard cylinder there is now a class C security cylinder in the options step, and on request all cylinders in your order run on the same key — useful if you are replacing more than one door at once. What it is not: a statement about the burglar-resistance class of your door. A cylinder protects the lock; the class of the unit depends on frame, leaf, hardware and the way it is fixed into the wall. That last part we don't do, because we supply without installing. If you have to demonstrate a class — for an insurer, for example — you need the installer for that and not just the stronger cylinder. Step 6 shows the price of both versions.

Does it come with a cylinder and keys?

Yes. Every front door comes with a cylinder and three keys. You don't order it separately; it is part of the door. One thing belongs with that, and it is not small print: the burglar resistance of a door depends on the complete unit — frame, leaf, hardware and the way it is fixed. We supply and don't install, so we make no statement about the class your door achieves once fitted. What we can supply is laminated safety glass.

Can I order a door and a side panel as one unit?

Yes, that is a layout with several sections in one frame. In the configurator you put the sections side by side and give the type and width for each.

How secure is a front door?

Burglar resistance is a property of the complete unit — frame, leaf, hardware and glass — **and of the way it is fixed**. A door tested as RC2 (EN 1627) but fitted wrongly is no longer an RC2 door. We supply and don't install, so we make no statement about the class your door achieves. What we can do: laminated safety glass class P4A (EN 356), in double or triple glazing.

Do you also sell uPVC front doors?

Yes, on its own page: the uPVC front door. uPVC is the cheaper of the two, as with a window. You choose aluminium for something other than price: it is stronger with a heavy leaf that opens and closes every day, and it is slimmer to look at.

Which aluminium profile should I choose for a front door?

That depends on what decides it for you. If it is insulation, the MB-86N with Uf 0.57 W/m²K is the best of the three. If it is the slimmest possible sightline with a steel look, the MB-Ferroline is the choice. If you need neither and price counts most, the MB-79N is the entry model. All three are also available from us as a window, so a door beside a window on the same elevation can be in the same profile.

Which size do I order — the structural opening?

No. You order on the **outside size of the frame**, exactly the size you enter in the configurator. The size you have in mind is often the structural opening — a different size. Translating one into the other, including the fitting gap you want to leave, is up to you; we don't install and don't know your opening. We guarantee ±2 mm up to a metre and ±3 mm above that and measure every unit before dispatch; the measurement sheet goes with the order confirmation. A measuring error in the size you gave is not covered — for that there is a second chance at cost price.

Are aluminium front doors good?

For a heavy leaf that opens and closes every day, yes: aluminium stays stiff and keeps its shape, and the slim frame leaves more room for the panel. It costs more than uPVC, so choose it for those reasons rather than by default.

How much do aluminium front doors cost?

More than uPVC for the same size. The guide price on this page is measured on our own quotes; your price follows from your size, profile, glass and colour in the offer. Prices in GBP, excl. UK VAT and import duties, which are payable on delivery.
