Profiles

Profiles that can do this

Uf, frame depth and sightline come from the profile table. The corner section is the manufacturer's render of exactly this profile: for Aluprof always the same shot — closed corner, close up — and for Gealan the render of the S 9000 NL family. The maximum sash width is on every profile page.

How it works

How it works

1000 × 2100 MM

What is a uPVC front door?

A front door is not a window with a lock in it. The hardware is door hardware with a cylinder, the leaf runs down to the threshold, and the size limits are different: the narrowest door section that can be made is 600 mm wide and the tallest 2,500 mm. Those are hard manufacturing limits, not guidelines.

uPVC front doors with side panels

A front door often has a side panel beside it: a narrow fixed light that brings daylight into the hall. The narrowest side panel we can make is 180 mm — narrower than the narrowest ordinary section of 200 mm, because a side panel only carries glass and no hardware. You order door and side panel as one unit with several sections, not as two separate frames.

The threshold: where a front door goes wrong

The part where a front door most often goes wrong is the threshold. Watertightness, insulation, threshold height and accessibility all come together there, and it is also where the connection to the floor build-up is made. We supply, we don't install — so discuss the threshold detail with whoever fits the door, before you order.

uPVC: the lower-cost front door

uPVC is just as much the cheaper choice for a door section as for a window — the same reason a uPVC window costs less than an aluminium one applies to a door. The sightline of the profile is 119 mm, whichever of our uPVC profiles you choose for the door. If you are looking for a slimmer sightline, or it is a heavy leaf that opens and closes every day, look at the aluminium front door.

What makes these composite front doors

Every front door panel we sell is quartz composite, made by Dindecor. The panel is the infill of the door leaf, the part that gives the door its face, and it has a hard, mineral surface that stands up to scratches and weather better than a painted or foiled panel. Around it sit a uPVC frame and leaf, or aluminium on the aluminium page.

uPVC front doors: frame, leaf and panel

The frame and the leaf are uPVC profile with a sightline of 119 mm; the leaf carries the quartz composite panel, the lock and the hinges. You choose the design of the panel in the configurator, then enter your size. Every door is made to that size, within 600 mm minimum width and 2,500 mm maximum height for the leaf.

uPVC external doors: front, back and side

The same construction works for more than the front door. A back door or garden door uses the same leaf opening outwards, usually with more glass. External doors in uPVC, front or back, are therefore one family: same frame, same panel, a different layout.

Composite front doors, UK: supply only

We make the door to your size and ship it to your address in the UK. We supply, we don't install: nobody from Rovenzia comes to fit it, so your own fitter does that. Prices in GBP, excl. UK VAT and import duties, which are payable on delivery. Delivery to the UK is quoted with your offer. Check the door when it arrives and report any transport damage straight away, on delivery.

Glass and side panels

A composite front door with glass lets daylight into the hall through the leaf itself; a side panel does the same next to it without making the leaf heavier. Both have their own page, and both are chosen in the configurator.

Frequently asked questions

uPVC front doors: common questions

How much are uPVC front doors?

That depends on the size, the layout (with or without a side panel), the glass and the colour — which is why there is no fixed figure here. The two figures above are guide prices per material, measured against our own quote archive and not a price list; under each figure is the number of quotes it rests on, and that number tells you how firm the figure above it is. The configurator shows no price: you put it together and request the offer. Prices in GBP, excl. UK VAT and import duties, which are payable on delivery. Delivery to the UK is quoted with your offer.

What are the minimum and maximum sizes of a door?

The narrowest door section is 600 mm wide, the tallest door section 2,500 mm. A side panel beside a door can be as narrow as 180 mm. Those three figures are fixed in our manufacturing limits; the configurator checks them.

Can I have a stronger cylinder?

Yes. Besides the standard cylinder there is now a class C security cylinder in the options step, and on request all cylinders in your order run on the same key — useful if you are replacing more than one door at once. What it is not: a statement about the burglar-resistance class of your door. A cylinder protects the lock; the class of the unit depends on frame, leaf, hardware and the way it is fixed into the wall. That last part we don't do, because we supply without installing. If you have to demonstrate a class — for an insurer, for example — you need the installer for that and not just the stronger cylinder. Step 6 shows the price of both versions.

Does it come with a cylinder and keys?

Yes. Every front door comes with a cylinder and three keys. You don't order it separately; it is part of the door. One thing belongs with that, and it is not small print: the burglar resistance of a door depends on the complete unit — frame, leaf, hardware and the way it is fixed. We supply and don't install, so we make no statement about the class your door achieves once fitted. What we can supply is laminated safety glass.

Can I order a door and a side panel as one unit?

Yes, that is a layout with several sections in one frame. In the configurator you put the sections side by side and give the type and width for each.

How secure is a front door?

Burglar resistance is a property of the complete unit — frame, leaf, hardware and glass — **and of the way it is fixed**. A door tested as RC2 (EN 1627) but fitted wrongly is no longer an RC2 door. We supply and don't install, so we make no statement about the class your door achieves. What we can do: laminated safety glass class P4A (EN 356), in double or triple glazing.

Do you also sell aluminium front doors — and are these composite doors?

Aluminium, yes, on its own page: the aluminium front door, with the Aluprof MB-79N, MB-86N and MB-Ferroline profiles in their door versions. You choose aluminium for something other than price: it is stronger with a heavy leaf that opens and closes every day, and it is slimmer to look at. Composite, yes: the door panel is quartz composite by Dindecor, set in a uPVC frame and leaf. That is a different build from the glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin over a foam core that many UK composite doors use. uPVC on this page remains the cheaper of our two materials.

Are your front doors KOMO-certified?

We don't know, and that is why we don't say so. KOMO is a Dutch quality mark; it attaches to the manufacturer and its production line — for uPVC window and door units via BRL 0703 — and not to us as the seller. We buy from five manufacturers and hold a certificate number from none of them. If you need it for a specification or an insurer, ask us before you order: we request it and pass on what actually exists.

Which size do I order — the structural opening?

No. You order on the **outside size of the frame**, exactly the size you enter in the configurator. The size you have in mind is often the structural opening — a different size. Translating one into the other, including the fitting gap you want to leave, is up to you; we don't install and don't know your opening. We guarantee ±2 mm up to a metre and ±3 mm above that and measure every unit before dispatch; the measurement sheet goes with the order confirmation. A measuring error in the size you gave is not covered — for that there is a second chance at cost price.

What are composite front doors made of?

"Composite" means the door is built from more than one material. Ours combine a uPVC or aluminium frame and leaf with a quartz composite panel by Dindecor. Many other composite doors use a GRP skin over a foam core instead; ours don't.

Are composite doors warmer than uPVC?

Not by definition. How warm a door is depends on the whole unit: frame, leaf, panel, glass and seals. We don't publish a whole-door U-value, so we don't compare ours on that point. What we can say is that a panel insulates better than the same area of glass.

Are aluminium doors better than uPVC?

Different, not better. Aluminium has the slimmer frame and carries a heavy leaf better; uPVC costs less. The quartz composite panel is the same on both.

Do uPVC doors expand or swell in heat?

uPVC expands a little as it warms up, and a dark colour warms up more than white. The profiles are made for that, and it is one of the reasons your fitter leaves a fitting gap around the frame. A door that sticks in summer usually points to the fitting or the adjustment, not to the material.

Do you supply a front door without a frame?

No. A front door always comes with its frame, as one unit: frame, leaf, threshold, hardware and cylinder. That way everything fits together and nothing has to be adjusted on site.
