Black French doors
Black French doors come in two ways: a black foil on a uPVC frame or black powder coat on aluminium. White, greys, anthracite and woodgrain are there too, and inside can be a different colour from outside. We make the doors to your size.
Black external French doors
In uPVC, black is a foil: jet black matt, black RAL 9005 smooth or graphite black RAL 9011. In aluminium it is RAL 9005 jet black, powder coated, on a slimmer frame. With two leaves side by side you see a lot of frame, so the colour counts twice.
Black aluminium French doors
Aluminium takes any RAL colour, smooth or textured. Black with a black handle gives the calmest look; anthracite handles are only available on aluminium.
White French doors
White uPVC is a base colour: the colour is in the material, with no foil on top. White aluminium French doors come in RAL 9010 pure white or RAL 9016 traffic white.
Grey French doors
Grey uPVC comes as basalt grey, agate grey RAL 7038 or silver grey RAL 7001. In aluminium, RAL 7039 quartz grey and RAL 7021 black grey are in the list.
Anthracite grey French doors
Anthracite uPVC comes in AP40, AP60 and matt RAL 7016; they differ in sheen, so match them to your windows. Aluminium has RAL 7016 anthracite grey.
Coloured French doors
Beyond the greys and black there are blues, greens, reds, cream and woodgrain foils in uPVC, such as fir green RAL 6009, wine red RAL 3005 or Winchester oak. In aluminium, any RAL colour.
Foil or coloured through
On uPVC, white and cream are the colour of the profile itself. Every other colour is a foil laminated onto the profile, and it goes on per side: that is what lets the garden side of your French doors differ from the room side. Cream is also available as a foil, next to the coloured-through version.
The configurator doesn't show one colour as dearer than another. What your chosen colour costs on these doors is set out in your quote.
Texture and sheen
Two colours that look alike on screen can feel quite different. Anthracite AP40 carries a woodgrain texture, AP60 a fine sand texture, and matt RAL 7016 neither. Black comes matt, smooth or with a grain, depending on which of the three you pick. The configurator names the finish under each colour.
Aluminium: smooth, textured or your own RAL
Smooth powder coat is the ordinary finish on aluminium. Fine texture, metallic and the anodised effect come from a separate powder range and go through the oven a second time. In our list, RAL 7016 appears twice, textured and smooth; RAL 9005 jet black is textured.

Handles, hinges and threshold
The handle and hinges don't have to match the frame, so a white pair can carry black handles and a woodgrain pair gold ones. The threshold under the doors comes in black or grey. Glazing bars, if you choose them, are always in the frame colour.
Woodgrain and metallic French doors
The woodgrain foils are golden oak, walnut, mahogany, Douglas oak, Bergkiefer, Winchester oak and Sheffield oak light. Each has a grain you can feel with your fingers, not just a printed pattern. For a less traditional door, uPVC also comes in three metallic foils: silver, champagne and bronze.
Matching French doors to your windows
If the windows are already in, start from them. Find out which white or anthracite they are, and whether they are uPVC or aluminium. A foil and a powder coat with the same RAL number can still differ in texture and sheen, so a perfect match across two materials is not something to count on.
Frequently asked questions
Can French doors be white inside and black outside?
Yes. You choose the outside and inside colour separately in the configurator; white inside and black or anthracite outside is a common pair.
Do black French doors get hot in the sun?
A dark frame gets warmer in the sun than a light one. On a south-facing wall, pick a slightly lighter tone if in doubt.
Can I have black handles on French doors?
Yes, black is one of the handle colours, with white, grey, cream, silver, titanium and gold. Anthracite handles are only available with aluminium.
Can I have a RAL colour that isn't in the list?
On aluminium, yes. Enter the number in the configurator: any colour from the RAL Classic range is possible, and it goes into your quote.
Do coloured French doors cost more than white?
Not on screen: there, no colour is shown as dearer than white. What your colour costs for your size of door is in the quote.
What colour is the threshold?
Black or grey. You choose it in the configurator together with the height, 55 or 35 mm.
Do you make cream French doors?
Yes, in two ways on uPVC: cream coloured through, where the colour is the material itself, or a cream foil. On aluminium, cream is a RAL colour you enter by number.
