Modern composite front doors
A modern front door comes down to a few things: a clean panel, a strong colour, not much frame. On our doors that panel is quartz composite by Dindecor, and the door is made to your size.
Contemporary composite front doors
Contemporary design shows first in the panel: a flat surface, a geometric design or a strip of glass. Quartz composite gives a mineral surface without a printed grain, and it carries a dark, even colour well.
Modern uPVC front doors
uPVC is the lower-cost frame and carries the same quartz composite panel as aluminium. In anthracite or black foil, with the inside in white if you like, it gives a modern door at the lower price.
Composite front doors design: clean lines
Clean lines come from what you leave out: no mouldings, a plain panel, a long bar handle rather than a lever. Keep the glass to one strip or to a side panel and the door stays calm. One colour for frame and panel, often anthracite or black, does the rest. On screen no colour is dearer than another; what your colour costs is in your made-to-measure quote.
Modern front doors with glass
A vertical or horizontal strip of glass in a solid panel is the usual way to bring daylight into a contemporary door. Choose double or triple glazing, laminated if you wish.
Modern front aluminium doors
Aluminium has the slimmest frame and leaves the most room for the panel, which is the choice when the door should look almost frameless. The aluminium front door has its own page, with its three profiles.

Five lines with a modern shape
Of the nine lines with door panels of our own, five give a modern look. The line and model names are Dutch; you find them under the same names in the configurator. Lijn has upright glass strips running the full height, from one to four, or strips of unequal length that step up one after the other. Schuin sets the strips at an angle, sometimes as one continuous band, sometimes as two wedges or triangles pointing towards each other.
Golf works with curves: a strip that bends to the left or right, or a wave that turns halfway. Staaf combines glass with stainless steel panels and bars. And Vlak is the calmest of them all: a solid panel, with a small vision panel, a narrow slot or a single stainless steel bar if you want one. If you want a door that is mostly plain surface, start there.
Stainless steel as an accent: the Staaf line
The Staaf line is about the combination of glass and stainless steel. Ankeveen has a stainless steel panel with two panes set into it, Naarden a stainless steel panel with three round panes. Dronter puts a glazed panel between two stainless steel uprights, Kampen a large glazed panel with a stainless steel header above. On Wolder and Ketel, stainless steel bars run across an upright strip of glass.
Stainless steel goes with a handle in silver or titanium, and with a house number in the same metal. With a black handle, the accent on the panel looks more separate from the rest.
A low threshold for a clean step
Under the door you choose a threshold 55 or 35 mm high. The low version gives a smaller step into the house and suits the calm look of a modern entrance; in black it almost disappears under a dark door.
A long handle made to length
A bar handle runs along a large part of the door height on the outside; on the inside there is an ordinary lever handle. Most handles are made to length. You choose the shape first and then the length, and the drawing in the configurator shows how it looks on your door.
A locking handle carries SKG 2 stars: at least three minutes' resistance to forced entry in the Dutch test to NEN 5089. SKG is a Dutch rating for the hardware, not a UK security certification for the whole door.
Matt, smooth or metallic
On a modern door the finish stands out more than on a traditional one, because there are no mouldings to break up the light. Jet black matt and anthracite matt RAL 7016 give a dull, calm surface. Black RAL 9005 smooth reflects more. The metallic foils, silver, champagne and bronze, have a sheen that looks a little like metal close up.
Choose the handle with that finish in mind. A black handle on a matt black door becomes one with it; titanium or silver draws a clear line across the surface.
Light inside, dark outside
A dark door on the street side can quickly make a narrow hallway gloomy. That is why many people choose white or a light shade inside. You can do that for the frame and for the door leaf: both have one colour for outside and one for inside.
What a modern door doesn't need
A modern panel has no mouldings to keep clean and no edges for dust to settle on. A foil doesn't need painting. Lukewarm water and a soft cloth are enough to clean it; don't use a scouring pad, because it leaves shiny patches on a matt foil.
Frequently asked questions
Which colour suits a modern front door?
Anthracite grey and black are the colours most chosen on modern homes, often with a white inside. The inside colour can differ from the outside.
Does a uPVC front door look as clean as aluminium?
Almost. The panel is the same; the difference is the frame, which is wider in uPVC (119 mm sightline) than in aluminium.
Can I get a modern door without glass?
Yes. The Vlak line has a panel that is fully solid. If you still want a little light, there are designs with just a small vision panel or a narrow slot.
How long is a bar handle?
You decide: most handles are made to length. In the configurator you choose the shape first and then the length that suits your door.
Does a modern door suit an old house?
It can, as a contrast. A plain panel in a dark colour on an old house front is a deliberate choice. If you live in a conservation area or a listed building, check with your council first what is allowed.
Which modern door design has the fewest lines?
The Vlak line. Overijssel is fully solid; Twente and Vledder have only a small vision panel, Almelo and Nordhorn a narrow slot. If you want a strip of stainless steel as the only accent, look at Havelte.
Can a modern door be white inside?
Yes. Frame and door leaf each have one colour for inside and one for outside. Anthracite or black outside and white inside is a common combination.
