Triple glazed aluminium windows
Triple glazed aluminium windows, and uPVC ones, have three panes and two cavities. You choose triple glazing in any new window, with a Ug of 0.6 W/m²K. We don't supply triple glazed units on their own for an existing frame.
Triple glazing and double glazing
Triple glazing has a third pane and a second cavity. In the configurator it's called triple glazing; double glazing is the standard.
U-value of triple glazing
Our triple glazing has a Ug of 0.6 W/m²K, against 1.1 for double. That means nearly half as much heat lost through the glass. The whole window also depends on the frame.
Triple glazed aluminium windows
Aluminium frames carry the extra weight of triple glazing well. Our best insulating aluminium profile has a frame Uf of 0.57 W/m²K; with triple glazing it's the best combination we offer.
Drawbacks of triple glazing
It is thicker and heavier than double glazing. On large sashes the weight can set the maximum size, and not every profile takes every unit thickness. It also lets through slightly less light and solar heat.
How thick is triple glazing?
Thicker than double, with three panes and two cavities; how much depends on the build-up. Which glass fits a profile is on the profile page.
Triple glazing in existing frames
We don't supply that: with us, glass only comes in a new window. Triple units often don't fit old frames either, because they're thicker and heavier. For new glass only, go to a glazier.
Frequently asked questions
How thick is triple glazing?
Thicker than double glazing, as there are three panes and two cavities; the exact thickness depends on the build-up.
What is triple glazing?
Insulating glass of three panes with two gas-filled cavities. Ours has a Ug of 0.6 W/m²K.
Are triple glazed windows worth it?
For insulation usually yes, especially in a new window. Weigh it against the weight on large sashes and the price in your quote.
Can triple glazing go in existing frames?
Not through us: we only supply glass in a new window. A glazier can tell you whether your old frame takes the thickness and weight.
Is triple glazing better for aluminium windows?
It gives the best insulation in any frame. Aluminium carries the weight well, which makes it a good match for large triple glazed windows.
What does triple glazing look like?
Like ordinary clear glass, with three panes visible at the edge instead of two. It's slightly less bright than double glazing, but you'll hardly notice in a home.
