Triple vs double glazing
Triple glazing vs double glazing? In short: triple insulates nearly twice as well, but is heavier and costs more. For a new window where insulation matters most, triple is usually the better choice.
Difference between double and triple glazing
Our double glazing has a Ug of 1.1 W/m²K, triple glazing has three panes and a Ug of 0.6. Nearly half as much heat is lost through triple glazing.
Weight and thickness
Triple glazing is thicker and heavier. On large sashes that can set the maximum size, and not every profile takes every unit thickness. The profile page says what fits.
Price difference
Triple glazing costs more. We don't give a price per m², because we only supply glass in a new window; have both priced in your quote and you'll see the difference for your windows.
Triple glazing and Building Regulations
A replacement window in England needs a whole-window U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or a WER band B. Both our double and triple glazing are used to meet that; triple gives you more margin.
Frequently asked questions
Is triple glazing better than double glazing?
For insulation, yes: Ug 0.6 against 1.1. Double glazing is lighter and cheaper.
Is triple glazing worth it?
Usually in a new window where insulation matters most. Weigh it against the weight on large sashes and the price in your quote.
What's the difference between double and triple glazing?
A third pane and a second cavity, which brings the Ug down from 1.1 to 0.6 W/m²K.
Can I put triple glazing in my current frames?
Not through us: we only supply glass in a new window. For new glass in an existing frame, go to a glazier.
