uPVC vs composite doors

uPVC vs composite doors? In short: "uPVC" is about the frame and leaf, "composite" about the panel. With us you don't have to choose between them: every door has a quartz composite panel by Dindecor, set in a uPVC or an aluminium frame.

Difference between uPVC and composite doors

A uPVC door has its frame and leaf made of uPVC profile. Many doors sold in the UK as composite have a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin over a foam core. Our doors are built differently: a uPVC or aluminium frame and leaf, with a quartz composite panel as the infill.

What the quartz composite panel does

The panel is the part that gives the door its face. Quartz composite has a hard, mineral surface that stands up to scratches and weather better than a painted or foiled panel. It is the same panel on uPVC and on aluminium.

uPVC or composite doors: the frame

The choice you make with us is the frame. uPVC is the lower-cost frame, with a 119 mm sightline. Aluminium is slimmer and stronger with a heavy leaf that opens every day, and takes any RAL colour.

Composite vs uPVC doors: price

Because the panel is the same, the price difference with us sits in the frame: uPVC is the cheaper of our two materials. The price for your size, glass and colour is in your made-to-measure quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are composite doors better than uPVC?

With us it isn't one or the other: every door has a quartz composite panel in a uPVC or aluminium frame. Choose aluminium for a slimmer frame and a heavy leaf, uPVC for the lower price.

What is the difference between composite and uPVC doors?

uPVC describes the frame and leaf, composite the panel. Many UK composite doors use a GRP skin over a foam core; ours use a quartz composite panel by Dindecor.

What is the price difference between uPVC and composite doors?

With us the panel is the same, so the difference is in the frame: uPVC costs less than aluminium. We can't compare with other makers' GRP doors.

How secure is a uPVC or composite door?

That depends on the complete door: frame, leaf, hardware, glass and how it is fixed into the wall. We supply and don't install, so we make no statement about the class your door reaches once fitted.
