Coloured uPVC doors
Coloured uPVC doors come with a frame in a foil or base colour and a quartz-composite panel by Dindecor. Grey and anthracite are the most chosen; white, black, green and woodgrain are there too. None of them ever needs painting.
Grey uPVC doors
Grey comes as basalt grey, agate grey RAL 7038 or silver grey RAL 7001. A grey door suits both white and dark window frames.
Anthracite uPVC doors
Anthracite comes in AP40, AP60 or matt RAL 7016. Match it to your windows, otherwise the difference in sheen shows.
Black uPVC doors
Black comes as jet black matt, black RAL 9005 smooth or graphite black RAL 9011. A black door stands out most on a light house front.
Woodgrain and brown front doors
Brown tones are woodgrain foils such as golden oak, walnut, mahogany and Winchester oak, with a grain you can feel. They suit houses that used to have timber doors.
A different colour inside
Door and frame arrive as one unit, and by default the leaf follows the colour of the frame. Inside can be a different colour from outside, white in the hallway for example.
A door leaf in a different colour from the frame
The door leaf doesn't have to match the frame around it. In the configurator the door starts on 'same as the frame'; choose another colour there and only the leaf takes that colour. That way you can pair an anthracite frame with a dark green or red door, or a white frame with a woodgrain door.
You make the same choice separately for the inside of the leaf. The drawing in the configurator then turns to face the hallway, so you can see how the door looks from inside.
From woodgrain to metallic: what the uPVC colour chart holds
The uPVC colour chart has thirty-five colours. Besides the woodgrain foils above, they include Douglas oak, Bergkiefer and Sheffield oak light, for a lighter or a coarser wood tone. White and cream are the only base colours; with every other colour, the colour is a foil on the profile.
For a door that stands out without being black, there are brilliant blue RAL 5007, pigeon blue RAL 5014, leaf green RAL 6002, fir green RAL 6009, wine red RAL 3005 and flame red RAL 3000. On top of that, three metallic shades: silver, champagne and bronze.
The colour of the handle and hardware
The handle, the backplate and the flush pull share one colour. On a uPVC door you choose from black, white, cream, grey, silver, titanium and gold. Anthracite hardware is only available on an aluminium door.
A black handle on an anthracite door almost disappears; silver or titanium draws a line across the leaf. On a woodgrain door, gold or black often looks quieter than silver. It is a small choice that changes a lot about how the door looks close up.
The threshold has a colour too
Under the door sits a threshold 55 or 35 mm high, in black or grey. On a dark door a black threshold disappears into the whole; on a white or cream door each colour looks different, so check it in the drawing before you choose.
A dark door facing south
A dark door leaf absorbs more heat in the sun than a light one. If your door stands in full sun in the afternoon, you might go for anthracite instead of black, or for a wood tone. That is a judgement for the eye, not a rule.
Look beyond the door itself
A front door rarely stands on its own. Gutters, fascia boards, the windows upstairs and the pointing all help decide which shade looks calm. One way to go about it: take a photo of the front of your house, hold it next to the swatches in the configurator, and pick the colour that goes with whatever catches the eye most.
If you are torn between two dark shades, pick the lighter of the two. Across a whole door leaf a colour looks darker than on a small square on the screen.
House number, letter plate and doorbell
When you choose the colour, think about what will go on or next to the door later. A stainless steel letter plate or house number suits a grey or black door; brass or gold looks warmer with green, red or woodgrain. We don't supply a house number or a doorbell, but they do shape how the door looks from the street.
Frequently asked questions
Can you get coloured uPVC doors?
Yes. Apart from white and cream, every colour is a foil laminated onto the frame at the factory. The full chart is in the configurator.
What colour door goes with brown uPVC windows?
A matching woodgrain for a calm look, or a cream or dark green door as a contrast. Keep the frame colour of the door the same as the windows.
What colours do uPVC doors come in?
White and cream as base colours, plus greys, anthracite, black, blues, greens, reds and woodgrains as foils. Some councils and listed areas have rules on door colours; check before you order.
Can the handle be a different colour from the door?
Yes. You choose the handle separately from the door leaf, in seven colours for a uPVC door. The backplate and the flush pull take the same colour as the handle.
Can I change the door colour later without replacing the frame?
We don't supply a separate door leaf for an existing frame. So get the colour of leaf and frame right from the start; they arrive together as one unit.
How do I keep a coloured front door looking good?
Wipe it down a few times a year with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid. A scouring pad or a cleaner containing solvents leaves marks on the foil.
What colour is the inside of the door?
By default the same as the inside of the frame: 'same as the frame' is ticked for the door. Choose another colour there and only the inside of the leaf takes that colour. The drawing then turns to face the hallway, so you can see the result.
Is a woodgrain door woodgrain on the inside too?
Only if you choose it. Outside and inside are two separate choices, for the frame and for the leaf. Many people take woodgrain outside for the front of the house and white inside, so the hallway stays light and matches the internal doors.
