Where the front door with side panel on the left and the front door with side panel on the right add one side panel, this layout adds one on each side. That gives a symmetrical look — the door in the middle, with the same amount of glass on each side — and the most light in the hall of the three side-panel options. It also needs the widest opening of the three.
The standard size is 1,850 × 2,100 mm: the 1,000 mm door in the middle, with a side panel of just over 400 mm on each side. If that width doesn't fit the wall, the front door with side panel on the left or on the right, with one side panel, is the narrower choice.
Symmetry is the reason to choose this layout over a single side panel: a door with glass on both sides reads as the centre of the elevation, whereas a door with one side panel always leans to one side. That suits a house where the front door is the focal point of the front, more than a terraced house where the width is often fixed by the neighbours.
This width of 1,850 mm is also about the limit of what is practical with a single door: any wider would call for a second opening door, and that is a different kind of product from a front door with side panels. Compare this layout mainly with the front door with side panel on the left or on the right, weighing the glass you gain against the width you give up on the rest of the wall.
Measure the full width of the door and both side panels in one go; the configurator splits it in the standard proportion, or you set a different split yourself. At this width it pays to measure the opening at several heights, because a deviation that barely shows on a single door counts for more over nearly two metres.
You choose colour and finish for the door and side panels separately, though most people have all three parts in the same colour for the symmetrical, calm look this layout is chosen for. The glass in the side panels is a separate choice, from fully clear to obscure — with two side panels you could even have one clear and one with privacy glass, though most people choose the same glazing on both sides.
In a renovation, going to two side panels is a bigger job than going to one, because the opening in the wall has to be widened on both sides — discuss that with your builder beforehand. In a new build this is often the starting point of the front elevation: the architect fixes the symmetrical entrance first and designs the rest of the front around it.
For security, the door remains the point to watch, with its multi-point lock and hinges; neither side panel has a lock. With two areas of glass beside the door, it is worth considering laminated glass for both if the door is on the ground floor.
Neither side panel carries any hardware load; only the door leaf does. The configurator checks whether the hardware of the door design you choose suits the size you enter.

Request my quoteFrequently asked questions about a front door with two side panels
Are the two side panels always the same width?
In the standard size, yes, split equally either side of the door. In the configurator you set your own size if the opening calls for it.
Do the side panels open as well?
No, both side panels are fixed glass. They let light in but are not a second or third door.
Does this layout cost more than a single side panel?
Yes — roughly twice the side-panel glass and frame compared with the front door with side panel on the left or on the right. The exact difference is in your offer once you have chosen a door design and glass and sent your request.
Can the two side panels differ, for example one with obscure glass?
Check that in the configurator; as standard both side panels are the same, but some profiles allow a different combination.
