Grey sliding patio doors, black or white

Grey sliding patio doors give a calm frame around a lot of glass. You choose them in uPVC with a grey foil or in powder-coated aluminium, made to the size of your opening.

Grey uPVC patio doors

In uPVC, grey is a foil: basalt grey, agate grey RAL 7038, silver grey RAL 7001 or anthracite in AP40, AP60 and matt RAL 7016.

Black sliding patio doors

Black comes as jet black matt, black RAL 9005 smooth or graphite black RAL 9011 in uPVC, and as RAL 9005 powder coat in aluminium, with a slimmer frame.

White sliding patio doors

White is a base colour in uPVC: the colour is in the material. White uPVC sliding doors stay quiet on a light house front.

White aluminium sliding patio doors

Aluminium comes in RAL 9010 pure white or RAL 9016 traffic white, powder coated, with a narrower sightline than uPVC.

Steel-look sliding doors

We don't make steel doors with glazing bars. The closest to a steel look is a black aluminium profile with the slimmest sightline.

The fourteen aluminium colours

For an aluminium sliding patio door the configurator offers fourteen colours. Two whites, RAL 9010 pure white and RAL 9016 traffic white, are smooth powder coat. Anthracite grey RAL 7016 comes in a fine texture and smooth. Jet black RAL 9005, quartz grey RAL 7039, black grey RAL 7021, grey brown RAL 8019, fir green RAL 6009, wine red RAL 3005 and steel blue RAL 5011 have a fine texture.

On top of those there are two metallic shades, white aluminium RAL 9006 and grey aluminium RAL 9007, and a finish with an anodised effect. A fine texture feels slightly rough and looks more matt than a smooth coat.

Your own RAL number in aluminium

If your colour isn't listed, in aluminium you enter your own RAL number, from your architect or from your existing windows. Any colour from the RAL Classic range is possible, and you choose the gloss level with it. In uPVC that isn't possible: that profile gets a foil and isn't sprayed.

The uPVC colour chart for a sliding patio door

In uPVC you choose from thirty-five colours. White and cream are base colours, in the material itself; every other colour is a foil. Besides the blacks and anthracites there are woodgrain foils such as golden oak and walnut, greys such as basalt grey and quartz grey, and metallic shades. If you want a warm look beside a garden with a lot of green, a wood tone on the outside is a common choice.

A different colour inside

A sliding patio door is often the largest glass wall in the house, and from inside you see the frame every day. Many people take black or anthracite outside for the house front and white inside, so the room stays light. In both materials you choose the inside colour separately.

Black or anthracite next to your other windows

Black and anthracite look alike from a distance, but side by side you see the difference. If the house front already has anthracite windows, choose the same shade and the same finish for the door. Watch the material too: an anthracite foil on uPVC and an anthracite powder coat on aluminium can look slightly different, even with the same RAL number.

The order in which you choose the colour

In the configurator you choose the material first, because that decides which colours are available. Then come the outside colour, the inside colour and the colour of the handle. Under each swatch it says how the surface feels. The drawing changes colour as you go, so you see how the door looks on both sides before you request your quote.

A sliding patio door in an extension

If the door goes into a new extension, it often follows the colour of the extension itself: the roof edge, the cladding or the roof lantern. A black or anthracite door in an extension with dark cladding reads as one piece; a white door in a rendered extension looks light and friendly. Keep an eye on the rest of the back of the house, though, because you see it from the garden at the same time.

Dark frame, lots of sun

A south- or west-facing door catches a lot of sun, and a dark frame absorbs more heat than a light one. With uPVC in a dark foil, some people therefore choose anthracite rather than black on the sunny side.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do grey sliding doors cost more?

On screen no colour costs more than another. What your colour costs is in your made-to-measure quote.

Can I get my sliding patio door in any RAL colour?

In aluminium, yes: you enter your own RAL Classic number and choose the gloss level. In uPVC you choose from the thirty-five colours on the foil chart.

What is the difference between fine texture and smooth?

Fine texture has a slightly rough surface that looks matt. A smooth coat is even and reflects more light. Anthracite grey RAL 7016 comes in both finishes.

Does the handle of the sliding patio door have a colour too?

Yes. You choose the handle separately in the configurator. Anthracite hardware is only available on an aluminium door.

Do dark patio doors get hot in the sun?

A dark frame gets warmer in the sun than a light one. For a south-facing door, pick a slightly lighter tone if in doubt.

Which sliding patio door colour goes with timber decking?

A wood tone such as golden oak or walnut goes with timber in the garden. If you want contrast instead, anthracite or black gives a calm line between house and decking.

Can I choose a different colour later?

A foil or powder coat isn't something you simply swap. Take your time choosing: the door is made in the colour stated in your quote.
